Weather update: Sharp drop in temperature with gusty north winds today

Areas hit by wind gusts over 100 km/h yesterday – EMY's forecast through Tuesday

From yesterday, temperatures noticeably dropped, bringing a more autumn-like feel to the weather. This cooling trend is expected to continue through Sunday, with some areas experiencing the chilliest conditions of the month. However, the weather is set to ease by Monday, and temperatures will gradually rise again.

Meanwhile, strong northerly winds, reaching up to 8 Beaufort, will affect the central and southern Aegean Sea until noon. According to EMY Director Thodoris Kolydas, these winds will weaken tomorrow but are expected to pick up again later in the week. Additionally, some rainfall is forecasted for central and northern regions.

Intensified northerly winds on Thursday 17/10 – Gusts exceeded 100 km/h in Tinos

According to the network of automatic weather stations of meteo.gr / National Observatory of Athens enhanced northerly winds that prevailed in eastern Greece, the Aegean Sea, and Crete on Thursday 17/10. The strongest wind gust was recorded at the weather station in Porto Tinos and was equal to 101 km/h. The table below shows the 8 highest wind gusts recorded until the early evening hours of Thursday 17/10.

Expect a mix of clouds today, especially in the western, central, and northern parts of the country. There’s a chance of light rain in Thessaly, Western Macedonia, and the southern Ionian Sea. Visibility may be reduced in the central and northern mainland during the night and early morning.

– Weather: Clear skies in the east.
– Winds: From the east at 3-5 Beaufort, locally reaching 6 in the east.
– Temperature: 10°C to 20°C, slightly cooler in Western Macedonia.

Ionian Islands, Epirus, Western Mainland & Peloponnese
– Weather: Partly cloudy with light showers, mainly over the southern Ionian Sea in the morning.
– Winds: East to southeast, 3-5 Beaufort, locally up to 6.
– Temperature: 14°C to 24°C, with cooler spots in Epirus.

Eastern Mainland, Evia & Eastern Peloponnese
– Weather: Clouds with a chance of clearing by noon.
– Winds: North-northeast, 5-7 Beaufort, with local gusts up to 8. Winds will weaken by the afternoon.
– Temperature: 12°C to 23°C.

Cyclades & Crete
– Weather: Partly cloudy, clearing by midday.
– Winds: Strong northerlies at 6-8 Beaufort.
–  Temperature: 18°C to 25°C in southern Crete.

Aegean Islands & Dodecanese
– Weather: Clear skies.
– Winds: Northerly at 5-7 Beaufort, locally reaching 8.
– Temperature: 18°C to 25°C, cooler in the north.

– Weather: Partly cloudy, clearing by midday.
– Winds: North-northeast, 5-6 Beaufort, with local gusts up to 7.
– Temperature: 16°C to 23°C.
