Anna Vagena reflects on life with Loukianos Kilaidonis: “He should have been here to see our grandchildren”

The actress shares emotional memories of her late husband and their journey in the theater

Newsroom October 22 05:08

On the morning of Tuesday, October 22, Anna Vagena appeared on the show Buongiorno, where she reflected on her long career in theater and her life with her late husband, Loukianos Kilaidonis. The well-known actress also spoke about the founding of the “Metaxourgeio” Theater in 1999, a project they began together.

“It was around this time in 1999 that we started the Metaxourgeio Theater with my husband, Loukianos Kilaidonis. We got this space to create the things we dreamed of, the way we wanted. It took a lot of effort. Since then, we’ve staged about 50 performances. I believe our presence has helped uplift the area artistically,” Vagena said, emphasizing their contribution to the cultural development of the neighborhood.

Vagena also opened up about the loss of Loukianos and their efforts to carry on his work: “As I say, Loukianos ‘got tired’ and went to ‘rest,’ and we—our daughters and our collaborators—continue. Nothing can happen without teamwork. We’re doing well. All this is done with hard work, honesty, and consistency. That’s what keeps us going.”

The actress also shared a touching story about her dog, Loulou, whom she adopted after it was abused. “I have a dog, Loulou, that I found in a village in Thessaly. She was an abused animal, and I was her third mom after others cared for her. For the past three years, Loulou has been suffering from a condition and is paralyzed from the waist down. Loulou has been through a lot, and she’s witnessed many personal moments.”

In an emotional confession, Anna Vagena expressed her thoughts about her late husband when she saw their grandchildren in the theater: “When my grandchildren are at the theater, I think to myself, ‘Loukianos should be here to see them.’ I look at our grandchildren and say: Loukianos, you should be here watching them.”
