Germany fines Bayern Munich €150,000 for fan misconduct during Cup Match

Bayern fans' use of flares and smoke bombs led to a game suspension and a significant fine, with part of the funds earmarked for safety measures

Newsroom November 12 10:15

Bayern Munich was handed a substantial €150,000 fine by the German Football Association (DFB) on Tuesday (11/12) following the behavior of its fans, who disrupted the German Cup match against Ulm last August.

The Bavarian team accepted the DFB disciplinary committee’s ruling, which stated that “in the 46th minute of the DFB Cup match at SSV Ulm, Munich fans ignited at least 70 flares and four smoke bombs, which they then launched.”

Some of these projectiles reached the field, causing the game to be delayed for approximately three minutes due to thick smoke.

The DFB’s announcement further clarified: “Out of the total fine, the club can allocate up to €50,000 for safety or anti-violence measures, which must be verified with the DFB by June 30, 2025.”

Bayern Munich, currently at the top of the Bundesliga, is set to face Bayer Leverkusen in the German Cup’s Round of 16 on December 3.
