Karamanlis: I am not interested in the Presidency of the Republic – Different opinions are not dealt with through disciplinary measures

In his comprehensive address, former Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis is expected to emphasize that, in this difficult and unpredictable world, Greece must fight its battles and claim its rights, contributing to the awakening of Europe

Newsroom November 22 06:56

The former Prime Minister, Kostas Karamanlis, is expected to indirectly, yet clearly, take a stance against the expulsion of Antonis Samaras from the ND Parliamentary Group during his speech in Patras at the presentation of the book “Yavol” by journalist Giorgos Harvalias. He had previously stressed that differing opinions should not be criminalized. At the same time, Mr. Karamanlis will address the substance of Mr. Samaras’ proposal for the Presidency of the Republic, saying that he is honored by the thought, especially since it comes from a former Prime Minister, but that the issue neither concerns nor interests him.

Mr. Karamanlis is expected to emphasize in his comprehensive intervention that, in this difficult and unpredictable world, Greece must fight its battles and claim its rights, contributing to the awakening of Europe. In this spirit, he is expected to underline that differing opinions, alternative viewpoints, and even strong criticism should not be demonized. They certainly should not be dealt with through disciplinary measures, as this would only make it more difficult to achieve the necessary national unity to support the national line, as the former Prime Minister is expected to highlight.
