Agrinio: Heartbreak as 18-year-Old Haritini dies days after her 20-year-old brother – Devastated mother speaks out

The two brothers passed away a few days apart after a car accident on November 2 - "There is nothing, we are finished", says their mother - GAS Agrinio says goodbye to Charitini

Newsroom November 25 07:32

Her worst nightmare is being lived by the mother of two children who were lost so prematurely because of trochoid in Agrinio.

Although 18-year-old Haritini fought a battle in hospital, she breathed her last yesterday, while her brother was also killed in the accident.

The unfortunate girl fought for 22 days to stay alive in the Intensive Care Unit of Agrinio Hospital where doctors did everything possible. However, hopes had dramatically diminished from the first 24 hours and the “miracle” that everyone was hoping for did not happen.

In the previous days, a call had been made on social media to raise money for the girl’s hospitalization needs “in a specialized ICU.”

Haritini’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 in Lefka Agrinio at 3:00 pm at the church of Panagia Axion Esti, according to agrinionews.gr.

The mother of the two unfortunate children, Ioanna Karachristou, in a post said goodbye to her daughter, writing:

“Rest Peacefully my love you will be in heaven with your brother and the angels”

“There is nothing, we are finished”

“She fought my little boy very, very hard, she was very, very strong. My life was my children, I know how I raised them and how I fought very hard. We are a mess, there is nothing, we are finished,” said the devastated mother from Agrinio, who lost both of her children after a traffic accident.

The 18-year-old Haritini, was seriously injured in the car accident, where her 20-year-old brother had lost his life, and she breathed her last today.

“Where can I find the strength while I think of my little children? Their dreams were cut short. One 18 years old and the other 20. Unfair, unjust,” the mother of the two children told the Star. “Two little children full of dreams, my Haritini was to be in sports, a champion, full of dreams, a student in her first year… Full of dreams, my little boy, full of dreams of life. He worked hard all summer.”

The chronicle of the car crash

The accident occurred on November 2 on the national road Antirrio-Ioannina, in Agrinio and specifically at the junction of Megali Chora, after a violent side-frontal collision between a private car and a two-wheeler, in which the two young people were riding. The car was crossing the National Road vertically when the motorbike, which was heading towards Amfilochia, crashed into it.

The two brothers, 20-year-old Akis and 18-year-old Haritini, were on the motorcycle, while a Roma family was on board the car. The 20-year-old Akis Karachristos left his last breath after the accident and the family of the 18-year-old girl has been hoping for a miracle since then as she was being treated in the ICU of Agrinio hospital.
