In Thessaloniki, the Greek police (ELAS) seized a total of 930 paintings during investigations into those dealing in forged art. Among these, 123 were intended for auction as genuine works by renowned Greek artists. A National Gallery expert confirmed their counterfeit nature.

Three individuals were arrested, including the syndicate leader, who posed as a credible auction house representative to defraud buyers. Investigations revealed multiple art workshops producing fake pieces for profit.

Police seized:

• Auction house transaction receipts,
• Financial documents,
• Art supplies used for counterfeiting,
• Laptops, hard drives, and related materials.

Charges include forgery, fraud, and cultural heritage violations. The suspects face severe criminal penalties.
