A 27-year-old singer has been arrested by authorities in Iran after Parastou Ahmadi appeared at an online concert via YouTube without wearing a hijab.

According to lawyer Milad Panahipur, the 27-year-old was arrested on Saturday in the city of Sari, the capital of the Mazadaran region in northern Iran.

This follows the formation of a file against her last Thursday, as the young singer appeared at the online concert wearing a long black dress without wearing a hijab.

“I am Parasthu, a girl who wants to sing for the people she loves. This is a right I cannot ignore, to sing for the country I love with passion,” the 27-year-old had written in the caption of the video she posted on YouTube.

“Unfortunately, we don’t know exactly why she is accused or who arrested her or where she is being held, but we will follow the case through the judicial process,” the Iranian lawyer told the Associated Press.

In addition to the 27-year-old, he said, Iranian authorities arrested in Tehran two of the four musicians who accompanied her to the concert, Shohail Fagih Nasiri and Esan Bayragdar.
