Serres: They promised public sector appointments claiming “high-level” connections – Their loot exceeds 140,000 euros

Two men and a 56-year-old woman were identified in the case, who, according to the investigation, operated from the summer of 2020 until February 2023

Newsroom December 17 03:22

Three swindlers took over 140,000 euros from unsuspecting victims, promising public sector or local government jobs, citing supposed connections with political figures and state officials. Their actions were uncovered by an investigation by the Serres Crime Prevention Unit, which was triggered by victim complaints.

Two men, aged 54 and 65, and a 56-year-old woman (all Greek nationals) were identified in the case, and according to the investigation, they operated from the summer of 2020 to February 2023 in various areas of the Serres region. They are charged with 22 cases of fraud and 5 more attempts (either jointly, in pairs, or individually).

In addition to job appointments, they promised—against a financial fee—to intervene in resolving disputes with the Greek state or facilitate entry into financial support programs, always invoking alleged connections with “key” political figures or public administration officials.

The police investigation is ongoing to determine if they were involved in any other similar activities, while the case file has been submitted to the Serres Prosecutor.
