Joyce DiDonato: The official premiere of the renowned opera singer’s film-concert at the Athens Concert Hall

Filmed in Ancient Olympia

Newsroom December 18 07:36

A groundbreaking musical narrative aiming to raise awareness about life on the planet, set against the natural backdrop of the historic and uniquely beautiful site of Ancient Olympia, forms the basis of the film-concert Eden in Olympia by the acclaimed opera singer Joyce DiDonato. Its official world premiere will take place on Saturday, January 11, at 8:00 PM in the Alexandra Trianti Hall of the Athens Concert Hall.

This is the cinematic adaptation of the Eden project, through which the renowned opera singer toured the world’s most prestigious concert halls, exploring the grandeur, power, and mystery of nature through breathtaking musical and theatrical themes.

The internationally acclaimed mezzo-soprano takes the audience on an emotional journey designed to reconnect viewers with the power and fragility of nature. The film aims to serve as a compelling call to protect biodiversity and reconsider humanity’s relationship with the natural world. It seeks to make classical music and opera accessible to all, free from limitations or prejudice. At the same time, it offers viewers worldwide the unique opportunity to move beyond the experience of merely visiting Ancient Olympia and instead discover and immerse themselves in the site in an unprecedented and captivating way. Through a fresh perspective, it highlights the historical and cultural heritage of the area, allowing participants to feel the magic and grandeur of ancient Greece like never before.

Alongside the musical ensemble Il Pomo d’Oro, French director Olivier Simonnet, and three children’s choirs—the Children’s Choir of the Greek National Opera, the Chœurs ECLATS from France, and the intercultural El Sistema Greece—Joyce DiDonato presents a landmark project that speaks to the hearts of people at just the right moment.

The Eden project was previously performed live in Greece at the Athens Concert Hall in 2023, thrilling audiences and critics alike. DiDonato’s concert was also accompanied by her visit to the refugee camp in Schisto.
