Marinakis for the announcement of his candidacy: It is a huge honour and responsibility for me

"I too want to fight to change the image that my generation has of the political system", says the government spokesman

Newsroom December 30 03:23

“The decision of the Prime Minister and President of the New Democracy Kyriakos Mitsotakis to join the ballots of our party for the elections of 2027 in the B1 North sector of Athens is for me a huge honor and responsibility,” government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis said in a post after the announcement by the Prime Minister of his candidacy.

Pavlos Marinakis in his post notes:

– This comes from the leader who, amidst global crises and wars, day by day transforms Greece from a pariah of Europe to a leading country. A country that stands up, shielding its defence and national dignity. But also a modern state that knows how to overcome problems and progress, always staying on the side of the citizens.

– Because this is a development that turns into a great personal bet to become the voice of thousands of residents of the 14 municipalities of the Northern Sector in the Parliament. To convey there the struggles of the women, men and young people of Agia Paraskevi, Maroussi, Vrilissia, Galatsi, Heraklion, Kifissia, Lykovrisi-Pefkis, Metamorfoseos, Nea Ionia, Nea Philadelphia-Nea Chalkidona, Papagos-Holargos, Penteli, Philothei-Psychiko and Halandri, dedicating my efforts so that their hopes may become reality.

– Because I believe that this relationship is and will be a two-way street. Moreover, from my position as a Government Representative, I see every day that no political action has no substance if it is not permeated by the pulse of society. Something that my work as a practising lawyer has also taught me. This, therefore, will be my ambition as a Member of Parliament if the popular will so determines it: to represent “Greece that wakes up early”, as one of my favourite messages of our party says.

– Because as a young man in public life,I too want to fight the battle to change my generation’s image of the political system. Not with slogans, “quotes”, wooden words and aphorisms. But with arguments and practices that convince and give a real perspective. Building on the 500,000 jobs that have been created in the last 5 years. Investing in the digital state that is being built. Changing what held us back and forced many of our friends to leave Greece during the crisis.

– Because since the time of my law studies even through the struggles of the GDR-NDFK, I have seen the value of your demands being in line with the justice of the many. Knowing that one is in politics only as long as it is the desire of the people. That is why the cross of preference of the voters of the North Sector of Athens will be my permanent compass. The most important criterion for the importance and weight of my positions. And the steady mirror that I want to indicate the consistency between my words and my actions.

– Because from my years of having the honor of leading the largest youth organization in the country, ONNED, as well as later as Secretary of ND, the party I have belonged to since I was a young child, I learned that the election season starts the day after the previous election. Thus, contact with the people has always been for me the oxygen that fuels my political action. Oxygen that I find just as valuable today, working alongside the Prime Minister and touring the entire country with him.

This is what I will continue to do in the 2.5 years leading up to the election. And, much more, from the day after the 2027 national election ballot box if my fellow citizens honour me and elect me as their MP. It is a journey that begins now, the most important of my political career. A journey that I ask you to take together to build all that we would like to see happen in our country. Walking side by side on the uphill but beautiful road of change that it needs. With Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the sure helm of our country and all of us united around him.
