Bayrou: Paris and Europe must stand up to Trump

If we do nothing, our fate is very simple, we will be dominated, crushed, marginalized, he said

Newsroom January 20 04:00

French Prime Minister François Bayrou warned today that France and Europe as a whole should stand up to Donald Trump who is now sworn in as president of the United States and his policies, or else they may be “crushed.”

“The US has decided to embark on an extremely dominant form of politics, through the dollar, through its industrial policy, through the fact that it can capture global investment and global research,” Bayrou said during his New Year’s speech.

“And if we do nothing, our fate is very simple, we will be dominated. We will be crushed. We will be marginalized,” the French prime minister noted.

“And the way we will react, that is a decision that is up to the French people and Europe alone, because, without Europe, we can do nothing,” added Bayrou.
