Jānis Timma: His ex-wife, Anna Sedokova, gave a statement about the suicide

Charges of incitement to suicide not out of the question, Russian forensic expert believes - "She shamed him all over Moscow," Jānis Timma's friend said of Sedokova

To testify as a witness about the suicide of her ex-husband, Latvian basketball player Jānis Timma, in December in Moscow, well-known Russian singer Anna Sedokova was called in the past few days, according to a revelation by Russian media outlet Starhit.

Details on the matter were provided by forensic investigator Mikhail Ignatov, saying that the development cannot be considered an official interrogation, and so far there is nothing in the case that makes the singer a suspect.

“Anna has been questioned as a witness. As she has no other status, no criminal proceedings have been initiated. She has not been questioned, she has been asked to explain herself. These are completely different issues,” Ignatov said, adding that to prove the connection to the suicide, documents, and verified information are needed, and that is why the investigating authorities are currently checking Jānis Timma’s phones. The investigation may take several months – and is unlikely to yield anything useful.

“All of Jānis Timma’s correspondence is being checked, people who contacted him before the tragedy that day are being interviewed. That means a lot of work is being done, it’s too early to talk about the results. I don’t rule out the possibility that he was forced to commit suicide. If it turns out that there was correspondence with the humiliation of human dignity or that any threats were received, then I do not rule out a case of incitement to suicide,” Ignatov said.

“She was shaming him all over Moscow”

Meanwhile, with more than a month has passed since the death of the basketball player, who previously played briefly for Olympiakos, his family, and friends continue to unravel the tangle of the real reasons that led to his suicide, revealing more and more details about both the basketball player’s life in Moscow and his marriage to Anna Sedokova.

The basketball player’s childhood friend Gatys Linins revealed in a conversation with Russian media outlet Komsomolskaya Pravda that Sedokova had cheated on him several times, while Tima himself had personally caught his wife with other men.

He noted that he had been friends with Timma since he was 17 and knew almost everything about his life. He said the athlete knew about his wife’s infidelity and was upset that Anna was “embarrassing” him.

“I first heard about Anna’s infidelity from Janis’ mother. In October, Janis visited his mother and shared with her that Anna was cheating on him. He told her: “Anna embarrasses me with a football player all over Moscow.” Then I learned from friends in America that in the summer of 2024 in Miami, Jānis Timma caught Anna with other men,” Linins said.
