Tax declarations: Pre-filled starting March for 1.4 million taxpayers

Automated clearance by AADE, the 4% discount, and strict deadlines

Newsroom January 23 07:46

By Holy Wednesday, April 16, 2025, the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) plans to have completed the clearance of more than 1.4 million tax declarations from individuals for the 2024 fiscal year.

These declarations primarily concern employees and pensioners and will be fully pre-filled by AADE, utilizing the available data on taxpayers’ incomes and expenses. These pre-filled forms will be ready and available for submission starting on March 15, 2025, marking the beginning of the declaration period for 2024 incomes.

The goal is for as many taxpayers as possible with payable tax clearances to take advantage of the maximum 4% discount, which will be offered for the first time to those who submit their declarations by April 15 and pay their income tax in full.

Taxpayers will be notified via email, where they will be informed of the following options:

a) If they have no objections to the pre-filled data, they may proceed with submission by April 15, 2025.
b) If they deem it necessary, they can amend the data by April 15, 2025.
c) If they take no action, their declaration will be automatically submitted by AADE on April 16, 2025, and will be cleared.

If taxpayers agree with the pre-filled data, they can immediately submit their declaration. Those who take no action will have their declarations automatically submitted by AADE on Holy Wednesday, April 16.

New System Implementation

In a televised interview, AADE’s governor, Giorgos Pitsilis, confirmed that the submission period will start on March 15, as stipulated by the new schedule, and will last until July 15, with no extensions. He emphasized the importance of timely data registration in the new payroll registry, which was completed on January 15, as a decisive factor for the success of the process.

He noted that in 2024, 423,000 declarations were submitted without any modifications, while this year’s target is to complete the process for pre-filled declarations within the first month, ensuring taxpayers receive the tax discount. Furthermore, he highlighted that AADE’s new system offers speed, flexibility, and meaningful financial incentives, facilitating taxpayers and simultaneously strengthening the state’s cash flow.
