“Golden” bank heist in Kifisia solved – Loot exceeded €4,000,000 in 2008

A 53-year-old suspect, currently imprisoned in France, has been identified as involved in the case

Newsroom February 12 10:41

Authorities have solved a bank burglary in Kifisia that took place during Easter 2008 using the “rififi” method.

According to the investigation, unknown perpetrators broke into the bank by forcing open a window and used the “rififi” technique to access the main vault and safe deposit boxes, stealing money and valuables worth over €4,000,000.

As part of the renewed investigation, forensic evidence from the crime scene was reanalyzed. Through cross-border cooperation and comparison with databases of countries implementing the Prüm Decisions, a foreign national was identified as a suspect in the case.

The suspect, a 53-year-old man, is currently incarcerated in France and has also been investigated by authorities in Germany and Kosovo for similar offenses.

Further comparative analyses conducted by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations confirmed his involvement in an attempted bank burglary in Attica in 2009, as well as the theft of a safe and an ATM burglary from a supermarket in Crete in 2010.
