Olaf Scholz calls for punishment and deportation of the perpetrator of the Munich attack

The chancellor also said the federal government is planning further deportation flights to Afghanistan for identified criminals

Newsroom February 13 05:04

The conviction of the mastermind of the Munich attack and his deportation from Germany, Chancellor Olaf Schultz recently called for. The “maximum stringency of the rule of law” was called for by federal Interior Minister Nancy Feser, while Christian Union (CDU/CSU) candidate for chancellor Friedrich Merz said security would be his government’s top priority.

“The perpetrator cannot hope for any leniency. He must be punished and must leave the country. Such an act like the one in Munich can neither be tolerated nor accepted. Therefore, it must be very clear that the judiciary will use all means to take tough measures against the perpetrator,” Solts said, stressing that anyone who commits crimes in Germany will not only be severely punished and sent to prison, but will have to wait and will not be able to continue their stay in Germany and this applies even to countries where returns are difficult. The Chancellor also stated that the federal government is planning further deportation flights to Afghanistan for established criminals. “The same will happen with the current perpetrator when the courts finally make their decision,” he added.

“Tough measures” and the “maximum rigor of the rule of law” were also called for by federal Interior Secretary Nancy Feser. The federal government has “massively increased” laws to deport violent offenders and for more deportations. “We are the only country in Europe that deports people to Afghanistan despite Taliban rule and we will continue to do so,” she said.

“The safety of people in Germany will be our top priority. We will consistently enforce law and order. We must all feel safe in our country again. Something has to change in Germany,” said Christian Democratic Party (CDU) leader Friedrich Merz.
