Fierce clash between Agapidaki, Velopoulos, and Polakis in Parliament – “Shame on you,” “Get lost”

"You have commodified patriotism and are politically exploiting tragedy—show some restraint, set some limits," said the Deputy Minister of Health

Newsroom February 19 02:35

The toxic confrontations in Parliament‘s plenary session continue with undiminished intensity, as the opposition launches an all-out attack on the government, hurling accusations of covering up the Tempi tragedy and pedophile networks while also insinuating foul play in the death of the son of the Appellate Prosecutor of Larissa.

Today, it was Kyriakos Velopoulos’ turn to respond to Adonis Georgiadis, who had stated in Parliament on Tuesday evening, “One moment you call us pedophiles, the next you call us smugglers, and now murderers. Enough is enough!”

Commenting on the Minister of Health’s remark, the leader of the Greek Solution party said:
“I almost shed a tear for poor Adonis. We never called you pedophiles—we said that many of your officials, whom you proudly posed for photos with, like Michos, were pedophiles. We said that you allow smuggling. We said that you murder the truth every single day with the Tempi case. That is a crime!”

Mr. Velopoulos also referenced the death of Vasilis Kalogirou, reading a post from his mother:
“The mother has an institutional role. So what is she saying? That they got rid of him. And what do you do? You unleash your trolls to call her a religious fanatic, to say she’s delusional. Since when is believing in God a crime? I’m not referring to ND’s MPs, but to the trolls. Both the mother and the uncle speak clearly about murder.”

The leader of Greek Solution then turned his fire on Deputy Health Minister Irini Agapidaki, sparking an explosive exchange, with Pavlos Polakis soon joining the fray.

Velopoulos: You are utterly provocative. Show some respect. You are appointed, while I am elected. You must respect elected officials. Now we have Mitsotakis’ appointees barging in to intervene whenever they feel like it.

Agapidaki: You have reached such a level of wretchedness that you come here and weaponize emotions. Just like Polakis, whom I just saw enter the room laughing. A man has yet to be buried, and you come here and connect him to Tempi? Where is the connection?

Velopoulos: Shame on you.

Agapidaki: Do me a favor and listen for once—set some limits on the disgraceful spectacle you put on in Parliament. I am not appointed; I am elected, as the Constitution mandates for state MPs… Parliament should not be a megaphone for the paranoid delusions of internet trolls.

Velopoulos: You are a political rookie. Your attitude says a lot about the kind of person you are. Next time you wave your hand at me, I will respond in kind. Respect is earned, not demanded.

Agapidaki: You have commodified patriotism and are politically exploiting tragedy. I understand that it bothers you when we don’t take the bait in the concoction you are trying to cook up. Show some self-restraint, set some limits—I may be a rookie, but I have principles and values that I serve.

Velopoulos: You will learn in time. But you are wrong, and as Thucydides said, unfortunately, foolishness breeds audacity. And since you are not a fool, do not scratch your back on the shepherd’s crook. And the crook is the truth.

Velopoulos: I did go to the prosecutor, and Adilini disappeared. Are you illiterate again? I submitted evidence… You are a disgrace to anyone who fails to understand what’s happening around them. You are the shame of ND.

Polakis: The minister made a contemptuous remark about me. But vulgarity defines you and your entire career—that’s exactly why Kyriakos Mitsotakis put you in that ministerial seat. And you dare to speak? You are just repaying your debt of incompetence that landed you there, you disgraceful creature. Get lost!
