Vasilis Kalogirou: Which scenarios remain on the table and which are being ruled out for his death

They are searching for evidence in videos from the area where his body was found – Toxicological and histological results are expected in about a month

Newsroom February 21 08:11

Just a few days after the discovery of the body of 39-year-old Vasilis Kalogirou on a hill in Perachora, Tyrnavos, all possibilities regarding the cause of death of the psychologist who went missing on December 30 remain open.

Yesterday, the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Georgia Adeilini, ordered an urgent preliminary investigation by the Chief Public Prosecutor of Larissa for determining the cause of death of Vasilis Kalogirou. In this context, she requests the “testimony of Ms. Sophia Apostolaki, who has publicly suggested criminal action against her above-mentioned son, in order for her to name the person or persons she holds responsible, providing relevant evidence. The father and uncle of the deceased should also be questioned.”

According to information, the request has reached the Larissa courts and the relevant summonses are expected to be served shortly.

Toxicological and histological results will provide answers

Investigations by the authorities are ongoing in order to understand how the 39-year-old ended up on the hill in Perachora where he was found dead after many days of searching.

The scenario of a natural death is certainly being considered. That is, the psychologist may have walked to the spot where he was found dead and, exhausted and suffering from hypothermia, lost his life. However, the possibility of a criminal act through strangulation remains a plausible scenario, as there is a finding in the larynx, and histological tests will determine whether it is ante-mortem or post-mortem. On the other hand, the suicide scenario is weakening.

However, in order for the answers to come regarding the histological and toxicological tests, at least a month will need to pass from the day the samples were taken, almost from the entire body, which was found in an advanced state of decomposition.

At the same time, the Larissa police are investigating the videos gathered from cameras in the area. However, there is an issue with this process as 50 days have passed since Vasilis Kalogirou’s disappearance, and most of the recording devices store footage for a shorter period of time. At the same time, they have ruled out alternative routes that the 39-year-old could have taken to reach the area where his body was found.
