PASOK: Amendment to ban judges from taking public positions after retirement

They propose that the ban be in force for four years - What was decided at the meeting of the party's Political Centre

Newsroom February 25 10:20

A bill through which judges will be banned from holding public office for four years after their retirement will be tabled by PASOK on Wednesday, according to a statement issued after the party’s Political Centre meeting. The statement reads as follows:

“The government is investing in toxicity to avoid the difficult questions it cannot answer.

PASOK takes the most institutional stance, away from toxicity. All our initiatives are parliamentary and highlight the responsibilities of the government for not implementing contract 717 for the installation of telecommand on the railway, and for the decision to tamper with the crime scene, a decision taken in the absence of the investigator but in the presence of a government representative.

PASOK is taking initiatives to protect the independence of the judiciary. With our conference tomorrow, we are opening the discussion with the relevant bodies and we are also submitting an amendment tomorrow to ban the occupation of public positions for four years after the retirement of judges.

As for the railway policy and given that two years after the accident at Tempe the situation remains tragic, PASOK is working on a comprehensive plan for its development and, above all, for the safety of citizens.

At the meeting of the Political Coordination Centre an analysis of the result of the German elections was made. The rise of a party with purely Nazi characteristics was underlined.

There was also an update on the major issue of the absorption of the Recovery Fund funds, an issue that directly affects the development of the Greek economy and the welfare state. PASOK expresses its strong concern about the implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Fund in Greece, as many parties express the certainty of a new cancellation of projects or loss of resources, as our Movement has repeatedly warned in the recent past, but the government has denied it.

All the last few years, PASOK, deeply concerned about the course of implementation of a poorly designed “Greece 2.0″ plan, has been constantly coming back with every available means of parliamentary control, demanding on behalf of the entire Greek society information on the course of implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Fund in our country. We will do the same now.”
