In recent months, food inflation in Greece has hovered around zero (e.g., in January 2025, it was -0.5%) and, according to official Eurostat data, remains the lowest in the Eurozone.

Regarding the prices of frozen products in high demand during Lent, which are particularly important for economically vulnerable households, they are at similar or lower levels than last year. Specifically, according to the latest official Eurostat figures:

  • Frozen fish (e.g., cod): -3.1%
  • Frozen seafood (e.g., shrimp, mussels, squid): -9.5%
  • Bread (e.g., lagana flatbread): +0.2%
  • Other food products (e.g., halva, spreads, etc.): 0.0%

In this context, the General Secretariat of Commerce of the Ministry of Development urges consumers, especially those in vulnerable financial situations, to carefully compare prices to avoid purchasing products at unjustifiably high prices and to protect their purchasing power. Meanwhile, the ministry’s regulatory services will continue to conduct thorough market inspections and impose heavy fines wherever violations of trade or consumer protection laws are detected.
