Rallies in Cyprus for Tempi as well

A memorial event was held in the village of Sotira for the two children from Cyprus who perished in the accident

Newsroom February 28 11:32

At this hour, memorial events are taking place in all cities of Cyprus to honor the 57 victims of the Tempi railway disaster. Students, pupils, trade unions, and workers from all sectors are flocking to the centers of Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, and Paphos, participating in the nationwide mobilization, demanding truth and justice.

Yesterday, in the village of Sotira, a memorial event was held for the two young people from Cyprus who lost their lives in the tragedy—Kyprianos Papanastasiou and Anastasia Adamizou.

A memorial service was conducted at the site, while attendees lit candles forming the number “57”—the official death toll of the tragedy.

Beyond that, banners were hung at the location, summarizing the entire tragedy in just a few words: “We were all on the train at Tempi,” “I hurt everywhere,” “We are beneath it all,” “Safety is not a luxury,” “Mom, I never made it,” among others.

The message of Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides:

“Two years after the unspeakable tragedy at Tempi, we stand with respect and deep sorrow alongside our Greek brothers and sisters. Our thoughts are with the 57 victims, including the three young people from Cyprus—Anastasia, Kyprianos, and Dimitra. To the families of the victims, the injured, and all those who lived through the nightmare of that night, we express our unwavering support and wish them strength and courage.”
