A few showers at the weekend, worsening weather on Clean Monday – Which areas are affected

The wind will be an ally in kite flying

Showers over the weekend will be light and localized with no threat to the festivities, according to the forecast. However, on Clean Monday, the weather in the central and northern regions will become more wintry with more rain and a drop in temperature.

In a post, EMY director Thodoros Kolydas said that we will have on Sunday “local rains mainly in Macedonia, Thessaly, eastern Sterea, Euboea, Peloponnese and Ionian Sea. On Clean Monday local showers mainly in the eastern mainland and Crete. The wind will be an ally in kite flying“.

For his part, meteorologist Klearchos Marousakis in his forecast speaks of instability on Saturday and Sunday of Carnival with the carnival events not facing any significant problems, while on Clean Monday the instability is generalized making the traditional kite flying difficult.

Today’s weather

Scattered clouds are expected. Local rain or light showers will occur in areas of the mainland and Crete. At night and early in the morning visibility will be limited in places.

The temperature will range in Western Macedonia from 2 to 13 degrees, in the rest of northern Greece from 3 to 14 degrees, in Epirus from 6 to 17 degrees, in Thessaly from 5 to 16 degrees, in the rest of the mainland from 6 to 17-18 degrees, in the Ionian Islands from 7 to 16-17 degrees and in the Aegean islands from 8 to 16-17 degrees, while in Crete the maximum will reach 19-20 degrees.

Winds will blow in the North Aegean from northeastern directions with intensities up to 4 Beaufort and in the rest of the Aegean from northwestern directions with the same intensities. In the Ionian Sea the winds will be light.

In Attica we expect partly cloudy conditions with the possibility of local rain. Winds will be light and blow mainly from northern directions. The temperature will range from 10 to 16 degrees Celsius.

In Thessaloniki we expect partly cloudy with the possibility of occasional rain. The winds will be light and blow from mainly southern directions… The temperature will range from 8 to 13 degrees Celsius.

The weather on Sunday 02-03-2025

Thin clouds that will quickly thicken in the north and gradually in the rest of the country and local rain will occur mainly in Macedonia, Thessaly, eastern Sterea, Euboea, Peloponnese and the Ionian Sea. Some snow will fall in the central and northern mountain ranges. Visibility in the morning and evening hours on the mainland will be locally limited.

Winds will blow in the west southeast 3 to 4 Beaufort, in the east north northeast 3 to 4 Beaufort, increasing from late afternoon in Macedonia, Thrace and the northern Aegean up to 5 to 6 Beaufort.

The temperature will not change significantly. It will reach 12 to 14 degrees Celsius in the north, 14 to 16 degrees Celsius in the rest of the country and locally in the south 17 degrees Celsius.

The weather on Monday 03-03-2025

Cloudy, partly cloudy with local rain mainly in the eastern mainland and Crete. Some snow will fall in the mountains of the mainland. From the afternoon the phenomena in the central and northern parts will weaken.

From the afternoon to the evening, the weather will become milder.
Winds will blow in the west east northeastern 4 to 6 Beaufort, in the east north northeastern 4 to 6 and in the Aegean Sea gradually up to 7 and possibly 8 Beaufort.

The temperature will drop mainly in the central and northern regions. In Macedonia, Thrace, Thessaly and the northern Aegean it will not exceed 10 to 12 degrees Celsius. Frost will occur in places in the north in the evening hours.
