Aegean: Passenger traffic up by 9% in the first two months of 2025

Aegean Airlines has reported a strong start to 2025, with passenger traffic increasing by 9% in the first two months of the year

Newsroom March 7 02:23

The airline transported nearly 1.9 million passengers across both its international and domestic networks, offering more than 2.4 million seats, an 8% increase compared to last year.

Despite this traditionally weaker period of the year, Aegean saw a 13% rise in international traffic and a 3% increase in domestic traffic, maintaining load factors comparable to the same period last year.

In 2024, Aegean carried 16.3 million passengers, a 6% increase from 2023, and offered over 19.7 million seats—1.1 million more than the previous year—despite operational and geopolitical challenges. This growth helped Aegean set another new record for passenger traffic.

Aegean’s Expansion Plans for 2025

For 2025, Aegean is continuing its strategy of expanding its operations and will offer around 21.5 million seats, an increase of 1.8 million compared to 2024. Specifically, the airline plans to provide around 13 million seats on its international network, 1.4 million more than in 2024, and 8.5 million seats on domestic routes, a 6% increase.

Aegean has already significantly boosted its activities in the Turkish market by adding new direct flights from Heraklion, Mykonos, Rhodes, and Santorini to Istanbul. New direct connections to Erbil (Iraq) and Baku (Azerbaijan) from Athens, as well as to Rome from Larnaca, will also be inaugurated during the summer of 2025. Additionally, the airline is strengthening its presence in the Iberian Peninsula, the Balkans (Albania, Bulgaria), Egypt, Italy (Rome, Bologna), and Switzerland (Zurich), and continuing its major investment in routes to Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Morocco.

On the domestic front, Aegean is working to add more direct connections with seven new routes, including four based in Heraklion to Rhodes, Naxos, Corfu, and Kos. There will also be two additional routes from Rhodes to Chania and Santorini, and Thessaloniki will gain a direct link to Syros.
