A Woman, social media posts, and a ticket: How the suspect in the murder of a 23-year-old outside a club in Marousi was arrested in Barcelona

Police located the fugitive at the airport in the Spanish city and arrested him last night

An electronic net had been set up around the 24-year-old man, who was finally arrested in Barcelona nearly a year after fatally stabbing a peer outside a well-known club on Kifisias Avenue. Authorities essentially used an old-fashioned method—tracking every possible trace that could lead them to the perpetrator. In the past, a shipping receipt for a dog had helped Greek police guide Romanian authorities to capture a notorious criminal. This time, a series of Instagram posts—delayed for security reasons—and a flight ticket led to the 24-year-old’s arrest.

Immediately after the fatal altercation, the suspect disappeared, but homicide detectives had already identified him through security camera footage that recorded the murder.

For months, both the authorities and the victim’s family closely monitored people from the fugitive’s social and familial circles, searching for any clue that could lead them to him. Ultimately, his girlfriend, who was under close surveillance, made the critical mistake that exposed the fugitive.

During the summer, the young woman traveled to Paros, where she worked at a nightclub. While there, she posted Instagram stories showing herself and the 24-year-old enjoying the island’s beaches and nightlife. The couple continued their lavish lifestyle in Santorini, their next destination after Paros, but managed to avoid police detection because the woman posted their stories with a time delay—uploading photos and videos only after they had already moved on to their next location.

Protothema.gr has revealed the Instagram posts that traced the fugitive’s movements. Combined with the discovery that his girlfriend had purchased a plane ticket to Barcelona, this led to his identification and eventual arrest.

Later, the 24-year-old reportedly traveled to Marseille, where authorities again failed to locate him, despite an active international arrest warrant against him.

However, in November, his girlfriend booked a flight to Barcelona, and authorities were informed of her trip. While in Spain, she continued posting about their luxury vacation, allowing Spanish authorities to track them. Acting swiftly, police closely monitored their movements and ultimately arrested the fugitive at the airport in the Catalan capital last night.

The 24-year-old is facing charges of premeditated murder in a state of calm intent for the fatal altercation that took place on April 28 outside the nightclub in Marousi.
