Christian communities in Syria continue to be targeted, says Faradouris in a new question to the Commission

The Greek MEP put a question to the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Kaja Kalas

Newsroom April 8 12:50

Left-wing MEP and member of the Security & Defence Committee, professor Nicolas Faradouris on the massacres and persecution of Christians and Alevis in Syria by the Jolani regime.

As he says in a question submitted to EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Kaja Kalas,on Monday morning in Brussels, “in the last twenty-four hours, images of ongoing targeting of Christian and other religious communities in Syria by forces and extremists loyal to the al-Jolani regime. By way of illustration, on Sunday, April 6, the St. George’s Church in the Greek Orthodox town of Budan was invaded by Islamists, who doused the seats with gasoline and planted explosive devices, which fortunately did not explode. Other reports indicate that high-ranking government officials, ‘former’ members of extremist organizations and Al Qaeda are supporting terrorist attacks such as the plan making the rounds on the internet to bomb the Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of Tartus (Tarsus).”

The Greek MEP continued:

“It is obvious that Alevis, Christians and other communities in Syria are threatened by the Damascus regime. Under these circumstances, it is urgent for the European Union to intervene to do what Jolani refuses to do: protect the lives of all Syrians regardless of religion.

In view of the above, Nicolas Faradouris asks the Vice-President of the European Commission:
