The Deputy President of EODASAAM, Christos Papadimitriou, has resigned (Upd.)

His removal seemed inevitable following the recent developments

Newsroom April 9 12:41

The deputy president of EODASAAM, Christos Papadimitriou, submitted his resignation in a letter to the responsible deputy minister of Transport, Konstantinos Kyranakis.

His removal seemed inevitable following the recent developments regarding the Tempi report and the issue with the fireball.

According to sources, Papadimitriou understood the heavy atmosphere forming against him after the morning appearances of Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis and Government Spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis, who, albeit indirectly, clearly called for his resignation due to his inconsistent statements and actions. As a result, he sent his resignation letter a short while ago to the Deputy Minister responsible for EODASAAM, Konstantinos Kyranakis, who in any case believed that, after everything that had transpired, Papadimitriou could no longer remain in his position.

“I believe that EODASAAM has produced a thorough report, valuable for the future of railway transport in Greece. The only exception is the issue of the fireball, which, in the opinion of the entire Council, requires further investigation. This is what I have been stating since the day of the report’s presentation,” Mr. Papadimitriou notes in his resignation letter.

The resignation Letter of Christos Papadimitriou

Honorable Minister,

Since 18/9/2023, I have tried to serve the public interest with responsibility and scientific rigor, during a difficult period. I undertook the task of establishing a non-existent railway accident investigation body and I believe that in 18 months I succeeded in creating, for the first time in Greece, a competent investigation authority, having renounced all other professional engagements and dedicating myself day and night, 365 days a year, to the monumental task of building EODASAAM.

I believe that EODASAAM has produced a solid report, valuable for the future of railway transport in Greece. The only exception is the issue of the fireball, which, in the opinion of the entire Council as expressed in the Minutes of 26/2/2025, requires further investigation. This is what I have been saying since the day of the report’s presentation.

With full awareness and responsibility, I hereby submit my resignation for personal and family reasons.
Hatzidakis: Back-and-forth from Mr. Papadimitriou – lacks consistency in his stance
“The truth about Tempi, however delayed, will be revealed, and everything will be clarified,” stated Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis in an interview with SKAI radio on Wednesday morning (April 9). “Already, the attempt to cover up the truth by a segment of the opposition and by certain individuals posing as experts is becoming apparent to a significant part of the public.”

Regarding EODASAAM and Christos Papadimitriou, Mr. Hatzidakis emphasized that “except for the fireball issue, the rest of the report is serious in terms of its alignment with the relevant proposals and recommendations of the European Union.” “Indeed, regarding the fireball, Mr. Papadimitriou has, in recent days, presented an inconsistent stance, falling into contradictions,” he added.

“The government has made it clear from the beginning that it has nothing to hide. What is the main issue in all this? Obviously, the responsibility of the stationmaster and the state of OSE, and I believe that in the end, that’s where the focus will return. There are government responsibilities in this matter, I won’t deny it. That’s why 43 prosecutions have already been initiated, and there is even a minister who voluntarily requested to be judged directly by the Judicial Council. The government, therefore, has every reason to want the truth revealed, because it will prove that while it may bear some responsibility for the state of OSE and may have made communication-related errors, it has nothing to hide. We do not want to cover anything up. If there’s any cover-up, it’s by those who had findings and tucked them away in a drawer, and by those pretending to be experts when they are not.”

Kyranakis on EODASAAM: The image of chaos cannot continue

“The image of chaos cannot continue, and the government must take action,” said Deputy Minister of Transport Konstantinos Kyranakis in an interview with Real FM earlier today.

When asked about the contradictory statements of EODASAAM’s Deputy President Christos Papadimitriou, Kyranakis stressed: “This image of contradictions undermines the credibility of the organization. I believe the president will take initiatives,” while also clarifying that the president of the organization is not Mr. Papadimitriou but Mr. Dritsakos.
