The 17-year-old, who was participating in a student exchange program, is accused of the brutal murder of a 16-year-old girl in his home country. He is expected to be brought to the Thessaloniki Court of Appeal on Monday, where procedures will be initiated for the execution of the European arrest warrant and his extradition to Poland, where he will be tried for murder.

According to the investigative documents, the 17-year-old is charged with killing 16-year-old Maja Kowalska on April 23, 2025, in the city of Mlava, in northeastern Poland. He allegedly lured her into an old carpentry workshop, where he repeatedly attacked her with an axe or hammer. Subsequently, he is accused of pouring an unknown chemical substance on her body and burning her, then discarding the remains in a trash bin.

The timeline of her disappearance and the search for the 16-year-old
According to Polish media, Maja disappeared on the afternoon of April 23 after informing her mother that she would meet a friend briefly. The 17-year-old reportedly lived near her home. Shortly after 8 p.m., Maja sent a message to a friend asking to speak urgently, and immediately afterward, her phone was turned off. Her whereabouts were unknown from that point.

The next day, April 24, a report of her disappearance was filed, and her body was found on May 1 in a bushy area near the old carpentry workshop.

It is recalled that the 17-year-old was identified by Polish authorities and an European arrest warrant was issued against him. The warrant was executed in Greece when he was located yesterday at a hotel where he was staying in Katerini.

Maja’s case has garnered significant attention in Poland and has been extensively covered by local media and content creators focusing on similar cases.
