Energean: The COREu research program focused on CO2 storage in Prinos (vid)

The sampling aims to record the natural occurrences of carbon dioxide in the Kavala Gulf and the parameters influencing them

Newsroom May 9 10:00

A video featuring material from the first environmental sampling conducted in the Kavala Gulf as part of the pilot research program COREu has been published by Energean. The company is involved in the project, which centers on a significant investment in CO2 storage in Prinos, developed by its subsidiary, EnEarth.

Using the research vessel “Filia” of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research, this investigation took place in November, with a second sampling occurring in March, both in the Kavala Gulf.

The purpose of these samplings is to record the natural presence of carbon dioxide in the Kavala Gulf and the parameters affecting it, so that there is a baseline for environmental monitoring of the project once it begins operation in 2027 and beyond.

The CO2 storage project in Prinos, together with the COREu pilot program, aligns with the European Union’s climate policy and efforts to support industries in reducing their CO2 emissions. This aims to lower associated costs and promote a transition toward a more sustainable world.

The COREu program is managed by the independent organization SINTEF, and approximately 40 partners participate, including universities, research centers, administrative authorities, and businesses across Europe.
