Ministry statement: “We asked from the taxi drivers and owners for a meeting without Lyberopoulos”

the demonstrators say they will not leave until they see the Minister of Transport, Kostas Kyranakis and call on all drivers and taxi owners to come to the ministry

Newsroom May 29 01:49

Drivers and taxi owners were At the entrance to the Transport Ministry on Thursday at noon, tensions arose when it became known that the delegation invited for dialogue did not include SATA President Thimios Liberopoulos.

Authorities intend to escort the taxi drivers to the designated car park as tensions escalate. Meanwhile, individuals attempting to enter the taxi cabs have reportedly engaged in intimidating behavior.

The Transport Ministry issued a statement clarifying the situation:
“An official invitation was extended to a group of taxi representatives to visit the Ministry, where they could present their demands and engage in an institutional dialogue. However, the invitation was not personally extended to Mr. Thymios Lymberopoulos, who has repeatedly used verbal violence and issued threats against Ministry personnel. Such conduct is inconsistent with the principles of institutional dialogue and respect for public discourse.”

The Ministry’s statement concludes that:
“Those present refused to participate in the proposed dialogue.”

In response, the protesting taxi drivers have stated they will not leave the area until they meet with Transport Minister Kostas Kyranakis. They are calling on all taxi drivers and owners to gather at the Ministry to voice their concerns.
