The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew had a new meeting today at the Vatican with Pope Leo XIV, on the occasion of initiatives marking the ten-year anniversary of Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’, dedicated to the protection of the environment.

Analysts note that the late pontiff had drawn much of the inspiration for this encyclical from the work and particular sensitivity of the Orthodox leader regarding the protection of and respect for our planet.

According to reports, the new pontiff and the Ecumenical Patriarch agreed to meet in Nicaea at the end of November, for the 1,700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council.

At the same time, during this journey, the pope is also expected to visit Ankara, Constantinople, and the Ecumenical Patriarchate for the Feast of St. Andrew, as well as Ephesus.
