Mother and 9-year-old boy who survived the collision in hospital

Newsroom June 28 08:23

An unspeakable family tragedy occurred on Saturday afternoon on the old Thessaloniki-Veroya highway when a car collided with a truck, resulting in the death of a father and his minor son.

The accident occurred shortly after 4 p.m., when the private car, in which a family of four was travelling, collided – under unclear circumstances, with a truck, on the road section between Chalkidona and Loudia.

The 44-year-old driver of the vehicle and his 13-year-old son died in the violent collision. The car, which turned into a shapeless mass of iron – as reflected in the images published by protothema.gr – was also occupied by the 43-year-old wife of the driver and their 9-year-old son. The two injured were transported by ambulances of the ambulance service to the hospital “Gennimatas” in Thessaloniki, where they are being treated.

The driver of the truck was not injured in the accident. He is a 34-year-old man from North Macedonia who was arrested after the accident.

As he said, from the moment they learned what happened, they are all in a state of shock, while it remains unknown exactly how the fatal collision occurred.

The Chalkidona Traffic Police is conducting a preliminary investigation into the accident.
