Julian McMahon, star of Nip/Tuck, dies at 56

"Julian McMahon passed away peacefully after a brave battle with cancer," his wife announced – He was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2004

Newsroom July 5 08:58

Australian actor and former model Julian McMahon has died at the age of 56, his wife Kelly confirmed to Deadline. McMahon passed away on July 2 at his home in Florida, just three weeks before his 57th birthday.

He was best known for his roles as Mr. Doom in Marvel’s Fantastic Four, as Cole Turner in the fantasy-mystery series Charmed, and as Christian Troy in the medical drama Nip/Tuck. In 2004, he was nominated for a Golden Globe in the category of Best Actor in a Drama Series. His final role came earlier this year in the Netflix series The Residence, in which he portrayed Steven Ross, the Prime Minister of Australia — a role his real-life father, Billy McMahon, held from 1971 to 1972.

In a statement released on July 4, his wife Kelly Paniagua said:
“With an open heart, I want to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, passed away peacefully this week after a brave battle with cancer.”

Kelly, who married McMahon in 2014, went on to describe her late husband as someone who “loved life.”

“He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work and he loved his fans,” she continued. “His deepest desire was to bring joy to as many lives as possible.”

“We ask for support during this time so our family can grieve in privacy,” Kelly concluded. “And we hope that everyone Julian brought joy to will continue to find joy in life. We are grateful for the memories.”

McMahon was first married to singer Dannii Minogue in 1994, though the couple divorced the following year. He married actress Brooke Burns on December 22, 1999, and they divorced in 2001. The couple had one daughter together, Madison, born on June 9, 2000. In 2014, he married Kelly Paniagua.
