Temperature reaches 38°C on Tuesday – Very high fire risk in Attica and Central Greece

"Hot-dry-windy" conditions persist, fueling wildfire risk – See the map of at-risk areas

Newsroom July 15 07:58

Temperatures will remain steady at 37–38°C today, Tuesday (15/7), especially in mainland Greece, and are expected to continue similarly in the coming days. Strong northerly winds, locally reaching up to 7 Beaufort, combined with prolonged drought, continue to create conditions favorable for wildfires.

According to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY), the weather today will be generally clear. However, after midday, local clouds will develop over mainland regions, and localized showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected in areas such as Epirus, Macedonia, western Central Greece, and Thessaly, mainly in mountainous areas.

In the mainland and in Athens, temperatures will reach 38°C.

Northerly winds of 4–6 Beaufort will blow, and in the Aegean, locally up to 7 Beaufort, helping to somewhat ease the heat.

Yesterday (Monday), temperatures exceeded 40°C in Skala, Messinia (40.6°C), followed by Sparta (39.3°C) and Gortyna in Heraklion (38.9°C), according to meteo.gr.

Based on the Fire Risk Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection of the Ministry for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, a very high fire risk (Risk Category 4) is forecast today, Tuesday, July 15, 2025, for the following regions:

  • Region of the Peloponnese (Regional Units of Corinthia, Argolis)
  • Region of North Aegean (Regional Units of Lesbos, Chios, Samos)
