Georgia Kefala: She started next to Vissi, reached the Parliament with Vitali

The singer of the Blues has been elected MP for the last two years with the Eleftherias party - In yesterday's debate on the report on the Tempi, the MP closed her speech with a song

Newsroom July 23 09:48

/He is one of the most distinctive voices of the Greek art scene, but also one of the most explosive stage presences in the business. The Blue singer, Giorgia Kefala, has been elected a member of parliament for the last two years with Zoe Konstantopoulou‘s Plevisi Eleftherias, recalling her professional status from the floor of parliament yesterday.

Specifically, Mrs. Kefala observed that the parliamentary debate, which was held in high tones yesterday in the plenary chamber, resembled a performance that was about to be curtained, she said, choosing for this reason to close her speech with a song.

“In my business, truth and honesty is everything or you go home. If you’re not true, you’re not standing anywhere. You don’t converse with the audience. So I would like to tell you that not everyone could be on the train. The elite couldn’t be on the train. The workers, the students who are components of the machine, were on the train. There is a nice song that the people are singing through Mrs. Eleni Vitali and I will allow me to sing it to you. Because it’s a performance all this and the curtain is coming dow,n you will allow me to sing it for you,” he said.

Thus, she closed her speech melodically after the successive bickering of leader Zoe Konstantopoulou. Kefala, who is the lead singer of the “Blues”, chose to end by performing “Kivoto”, by Eleni Vitali, from the floor of parliament, leaving her colleagues speechless. However, she received a round of applause for her theatrical performance and the comment “excellent” from the presidium.

Her… subversive parliamentary appearance yesterday, however, did not provoke reactions in the artistic scene, as Mrs Kefalas has been a special persona in terms of her artistic expression, choosing intense movement on stage, as well as aesthetic costume appearances. Elements suggestive of a rock artist, although neither she nor Blue carries such a musical stigma. However, Ms. Kefalah has made the eccentricity of her stage presence a trademark of Blue, maintaining it until the last two years, as she continues to perform music, duetting with Eurydice, despite being elected a member of parliament.

With a timbre reminiscent of US singers of colour and the rhythm in her, Georgia Kefalas was born in Athens in 1971 and began working professionally as a singer in the 90s, joining Anna Vissi’s Daimones. She motivated her to enter the singing scene, since she was initially working as a dancer, and she met the Blues on a tour of Anna Vissi, with whom she was working at the time, in Thessaloniki. After Theodosia Tsatsou had left, Giorgia Kefalas had a nearly twenty-year career with the Blues and in 2023 she was elected for the first time as a member of parliament with Zoe Konstantopoulou and “Plyosi Eleftherias”.

“The children came and found me. I was singing at “Asteria” with Anna Vissi. They came and saw me, I think, when we went up to the “Axios Gate”. I was singing “I’m Afraid”. They heard me and put me in the studio right away, in 1998. Theatrical? I love dancing and that’s why I couldn’t be static on stage. I create a musical performance, and of course, I put on my character. Maybe they thought it was strange at first because Greek singers move the body from the neck up or dance in moulded things. But I didn’t do my hair and dressing in a pretentious way either. I didn’t do the extravagance for the sake of extravagance. I didn’t want to impress anyone,” described her walk, bringing a little bit of … Blue, to the plenary chamber of the House of Assembly.
