Track & field: Tentoglou wins gold at the Balkan Championships with a single leap

One jump, one gold: Tentoglou shines with 8.07m at Balkan Championships

Newsroom July 27 08:06

Miltos Tentoglou needed just one valid jump to stand atop the podium once again. The two-time Olympic champion struck gold in the long jump at the Balkan Athletics Championships in Volos with a leap of 8.07 meters—his only valid attempt of the competition.

Tentoglou’s competition started with a foul on his first jump, during which he scraped his hand upon landing and appeared visibly unsettled. But on his second attempt, he delivered a clean and powerful jump of 8.07m, immediately taking the lead.

After securing the top spot, the Greek champion chose not to make any further jumps, citing issues with the pit and the quality of the sand, expressing concern for his safety:

“I was worried about my neck. If I’d gone for another jump, I might’ve gotten injured,” he later said.

Despite staying ready in case a competitor threatened his lead, there was no need. No one came close.

Final Results – Men’s Long Jump (Balkan Championships 2025, Volos):
Gold – Miltos Tentoglou (Greece) – 8.07m
Silver – Bozhidar Saraboyukov (Bulgaria) – 7.90m
Bronze – Andreas Trajkovski (North Macedonia) – 7.77m

Tentoglou, once again, shows that when it comes to big-stage performances, he’s in a league of his own—even when he doesn’t need to go all out.
