Very high fire risk forecast for a number of regions on Tuesday

Increased readiness of the state mechanism

Newsroom July 28 06:55

The risk of wildfires will be very high tomorrow, Tuesday, July 29, in several parts of Greece, including Attica, the Peloponnese, Central Greece, Crete, and Achaia. This warning comes from the Fire Risk Prediction Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection.

Areas at Very High Risk (Category 4):

  • Peloponnese
  • Central Greece: Fthiotida, Boeotia, Fokida, Evia
  • Attica (including Kythera)
  • Crete: Chania, Rethymno, Heraklion
  • Western Greece: Achaia

Heightened Preparedness and Safety Measures

Authorities have alerted all relevant government services, regional authorities, and municipalities in these areas to remain on high alert and ready to respond immediately to any fire outbreaks.

Citizens are strongly advised to avoid any outdoor activities that could accidentally spark a fire. This includes:

  • Burning dry grass or debris
  • Using machinery that produces sparks (e.g. welding tools, circular saws)
  • Lighting outdoor barbecues
  • Smoking near wooded areas or using bee smokers
  • Discarding lit cigarettes

During the fire season, burning fields is strictly prohibited.

Access Restrictions in Forested Areas

As part of the ongoing Civil Protection Action Plan, restrictions may be imposed on vehicle access and visits to forests, national parks, and other high-risk areas to prevent possible ignition.

What to Do in Case of Fire

  • If you see a fire, call the Fire Department immediately at 199
  • Stay updated via the official website and social media channels of the Fire Department and Civil Protection authorities
  • Always follow the instructions of emergency personnel and local authorities
