Seven journalists killed in an Israeli strike on a tent they were staying in Gaza

IDF confirms it killed an Al Jazeera journalist "acting under the guise of a journalist" - His last post

Newsroom August 11 09:46

Qatar’s Al Jazeera television network is reporting that at least seven journalists, including two correspondents and three cameramen in the field, were killed in a “targeted” strike by the army of Israel against the tent where they were staying in the city of Gaza last Sunday night, citing the director of the Shifa hospital.

Anas Al Sharif and Mohammad Qurayka, journalists for the Qatari TV network, as well as Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammad Nufal and Moamen Aliyah, its cameramen, are among the victims, he explained.

The Israeli Defense Forces confirms it carried out an airstrike in Gaza City that killed Anas al-Sharif, an Al Jazeera journalist whom the military calls a “terrorist acting under the guise of a journalist.”

“Terrorist Anas al-Sharif served as a cell leader in the Hamas terrorist organization and promoted plans to fire rockets at Israeli civilians and Israeli army forces,” the army said in a statement.

The Israeli Defense Forces notes that in October it released documents seized in Gaza that it says “unequivocally confirm” Sharif’s “military connection to Hamas.”

Minutes before he was killed, Sharif recorded Israeli airstrikes on Gaza City and posted footage on social media.

“Non-stop bombardment… For two hours, Israeli aggression in Gaza City has intensified,” he wrote on X.

Israel has consistently accused Palestinian journalists in Gaza of belonging to Hamas since it launched its war in the region in October 2023, which rights groups describe as an attempt to discredit their work for Israel’s abuses.
