Jennifer Aniston: She made a rare comment about her divorce from Brad Pitt

Reflecting on an interview she gave shortly after their divorce

Newsroom August 12 10:19

Jennifer Aniston doesn’t usually talk about her marriage to Brad Pitt, but she made an exception in a recent interview with Vanity Fair. The piece is somewhat of an anniversary reflection, released twenty years after her first interview post-divorce in 2005, in the same magazine, titled “The Unbreakable Jennifer Aniston.”

“I remember the experience of doing that interview — it was kind of tough. It was a really vulnerable time. But yes, it became one of my memoirs.”

In a video accompanying the new interview, she also recalled the 2006 movie The Break-Up, where she starred alongside Vince Vaughn. She filmed it while dealing with her real-life breakup with Pitt.

“I remember the experience of doing that interview — it was kind of tough. It was a really vulnerable time. But yes, it became one of my memoirs.”

“I had just gone through a breakup — a little breakup, I’m sure no one even remembers it,” joked the 56-year-old actress.

“It was like a cleansing process [the movie]. When they approached me with the role, they were a bit hesitant because they thought, ‘Is this insensitive? Is this inappropriate?’ But I thought, ‘This is a great opportunity.’

“I knew emotionally it would ultimately help me as a person. Also, the real breakup actually served the script and my character really well.”

To recap, Pitt and Aniston met through their managers in 1994 and started dating in 1998, before marrying in a lavish ceremony in July 2000.

They divorced in 2005 and went on to marry other people: Aniston with Justin Theroux, and Pitt with Angelina Jolie. Although there have been rumors in recent years about a romantic reunion sparked by their warm encounters at public events, Aniston is currently dating hypnotherapist Jim Curtis, while Pitt is with jewelry designer Ines de Ramon.

Back in 2005, Aniston said of Pitt, “I really hope one day we can be friends again. I will love him for the rest of my life. He’s a wonderful man. I don’t regret anything and I’m not going to blame myself for it.” It seems their friendship has indeed endured.
