Shock in Melbourne over the murder of Greek-Australian woman and the beheading of her partner – Killer went for a burger afterward

Smiling in court, 34-year-old Ross Judd – Athena Georgopoulou was 5 months pregnant

Newsroom August 13 01:13

Australia has been shaken by news of the double murder of 39-year-old Greek-Australian Athena Georgopoulou and her 50-year-old partner, Andrew Gunn, on Monday night. Authorities have arrested 34-year-old homeless man Ross Judd.

Judd appeared in court today charged with homicide. Australian media reported he was smiling and calm, to the point that when he stumbled entering the courtroom, he said, “I tripped, I’m fine.”

She was five months pregnant
Investigators requested a 10-day extension to gather more evidence, noting that Georgopoulou was five months pregnant with a baby girl.

Went for a burger after the crime
Judd was arrested four hours after the double murder, at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday at Westall Station, about 6 km from the crime scene. He had two large dogs with him and, according to authorities, knew the victims.

According to 7news.com.au, about 40 minutes after the killings—whose motives remain unclear—he went to a fast-food restaurant for a burger.

A customer said Judd entered barefoot with two German Shepherds. Fifteen minutes later, after ordering two cheeseburgers and a soft drink, he left, abandoning the dogs.

Neighbors discovered the couple
A neighbor reported hearing an argument, shouting, and constant barking Monday night. Since the couple often quarreled, at first it didn’t raise alarm. But her housemate went outside to check and saw a man walking away.

Approaching the house, they found two bodies and graffiti with phrases such as “U R Gay,” “Enough is Enough,” “Betrayal,” and “Karma” in yellow-green and black paint on fences and walls. Police are investigating whether the graffiti is linked to the crime.

The neighbor initially mistook Gunn’s severed head, mounted on a wooden stake, for a STOP sign before realizing what it was.

A mother’s heartbreaking farewell
Georgopoulou was excited to become a mother. “She was so happy because she never thought she could have a child,” her aunt Patti Dilveridis told the Herald Sun, adding she had spoken to her two days earlier and heard her joy.

She cared for her mother while working in customer service for electricity and insurance companies.

In a Facebook post, her mother, Petty Georgopoulou, wrote:
“My little heart, you left this life so unjustly that I still cannot believe it. In recent days you were so happy—we were making dreams together for your little daughter that you were going to bring into this world. And suddenly, everything was wiped away in one night, when a [so-called] murderer cut short your life and the life of my little granddaughter you would have brought into the world in four months. No matter how much they separate us, I will never stop loving you. Forever. Until we meet again, my little girl, in the light of the angels.”
