“Anyone entering or staying illegally in Greece will be returned,” says Sevi Voloudaki

The Deputy Minister for Migration and Asylum emphasized that the country cannot function either as a corridor for illegal migration or as a “warehouse of souls” for those not entitled to stay

Newsroom September 2 09:00

Deputy Minister Sevi Voloudaki described it as “a major institutional reform affecting the very existence of our homeland, the safety of citizens, the social cohesion of the nation, and the way Greece stands in Europe and the world” during her speech in Parliament on the bill “Reform of the Framework and Procedures for the Return of Third-Country Nationals.”

Voloudaki stressed that Greece “cannot serve either as a corridor for illegal migration or as a ‘warehouse of souls’ for those not entitled to remain.” She added: “We are fair, but we are also absolutely clear: anyone entering or staying illegally will be returned.”

The bill, she noted, “introduces clear rules and stricter entry bans,” while violators face “a prison sentence of at least three years and a fine of at least €10,000.”

Voloudaki underlined that “Greece must not and will not experience the ‘days of 2015’ again. The chaos and deplorable conditions are definitively in the past,” emphasizing that the bill represents “a vote of responsibility, in favor of national interest, social cohesion, and the rule of law.”

In conclusion, the deputy minister stressed: “Greece will no longer be a hostage to illegality. Greece will stand tall. It will remain safe. It will remain fair and humane.”
