Residents of the village of Agios Myronas, in Heraklion, Crete, have been plunged into mourning over the tragic death of a 17-year-old boy in a car crash on the BOAK on Monday.

The thread of 17-year-old George’s life was cut when the truck he was driving veered off course and derailed in the Agias Pelagia – Fodele section, resulting in the youngster being trapped in the vehicle, and it is even reported that he was not wearing a seat belt.

Police sources described to Cretalive that the 17-year-old lost control of the truck, which fell into a rainwater ditch on the right of the road. As he tried to recover it, however, the truck went off course and overturned, with a fatal outcome.

Work was being carried out on the pavement on that section of the road, and according to reports from the same news outlet, the person in charge of the project has been arrested, as official permits were reportedly not given to carry it out.

According to the same news outlet, George was helping in the family business and wanted to attend a merchant marine school. He was due to turn 18 in November.
