Mitsotakis at Peristeri Court of First Instance: Questioning trust in justice in this toxic environment can become a self-fulfilling prophecy in citizens’ minds

“The difficult task of reform is being advanced with determination and persistence, and always with trust in justice,” emphasized the Prime Minister

Newsroom October 17 01:08

On Friday morning, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited Peristeri for the inauguration of the new building of the regional branch of the Athens Court of First Instance.

In his speech, he stressed:
“It is a positive experience that we all deserve to celebrate together, and I think the best proof that the work—the difficult task of reforming justice—is being advanced with determination and persistence, and always with trust in justice. Because questioning trust in justice can very easily, in this toxic environment, become a self-fulfilling prophecy in citizens’ minds.”

He also noted that “judicial reforms were initially met with skepticism, but citizens will soon see the results in faster delivery of justice.”

“In the field of justice, we are gradually aligning with Europe, correcting yet another anomaly. Although we had the highest number of judges per capita, we had the lowest number of rulings. We want a justice system that is blind but supportive of citizens, never against them. Every day of delay in practice is a lost opportunity, which is why we implement our program always looking forward,” added the Prime Minister.

“That is why we must advance our work at the fastest possible pace, so that citizens themselves can soon perceive the results of these reform efforts,” he concluded in his speech.

The Prime Minister was welcomed by, among others, Justice Minister George Floridis and Minister for Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis.

This is one of four new regional courts being established, which will hear cases involving up to €250,000, allowing for faster case resolution. The Peristeri branch is expected to serve 500,000 residents and 1,000 lawyers active in the wider area.
