Sean “Diddy” Combs transferred to a New Jersey prison to serve his sentence – Why he chose Fort Dix

The music producer will serve about two and a half years in the low-security prison - The appeal and the request for a pardon to Trump

Newsroom October 31 10:02

Sean “Diddy” Combs was transferred Thursday to the low-security Fort Dix prison in New Jersey to serve the remainder of a 50-month sentence on prostitution-related charges, according to people familiar with the case.

The well-known music producer, who was convicted of two counts of “transportation with intent to commit prostitution,” had requested to serve his sentence in that prison so he could participate in a drug rehabilitation program and be closer to his family.

According to federal authorities, Combs is expected to serve about two and a half years at the Fort Dix facility. Until now, he has been held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, since his arrest in September 2024 and throughout his trial in early 2025. Those 13 months will be deducted from the remainder of his sentence, and he may receive an additional reduction due to participation in the rehabilitation program. His projected release date is May 8, 2028, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Combs’ legal team has already appealed the conviction and sentence, asking the federal appeals court to expedite the process. President Donald Trump has confirmed that Combs has asked for a pardon, but so far, no decision has been made.

The Fort Dix prison has been home to other public figures, including Joey Judice, a former cast member of the reality show “The Real Housewives of New Jersey”.

Inmates at the facility can purchase items from the cafeteria, including rice cakes for $5.75, albacore tuna for $3.75, and Pop-Tarts for $2.85. However, according to the cafeteria’s list, apple puree is not available – a product that, as a witness testified at trial, Combs loved and used to add to his cheeseburgers.
