How the tragedy with the 10-year-old girl at the Aspropyrgos school happened – “She wasn’t doing gym class, she was walking and suddenly collapsed,” says the Ministry of Education

The child was immediately taken to a hospital, but doctors were unable to revive her – There was no recorded medical condition on her school health record

Newsroom October 31 05:44

A tragedy in Aspropyrgos has caused shock, as a young girl collapsed and died under unknown circumstances while walking in her schoolyard.

Although school staff performed CPR and the girl was rushed to a hospital, she did not survive.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident, while the Ministry of Education stated that the girl had no known or recorded medical issues.

The unfortunate girl, a resident of Aspropyrgos, collapsed under unknown circumstances while walking in the basketball court area on Friday morning (October 31).

The physical education teacher, upon realizing that the girl had collapsed, called the school nurse, who immediately provided first aid and performed CPR.

An ambulance was also called and transported the girl to Thriassio Hospital — although it was not on emergency duty that day, it was chosen due to its proximity.

Doctors tried for an extended period to revive her using CPR, but they were unsuccessful and eventually confirmed her death.

Following the incident, the physical education teacher was summoned to the Aspropyrgos Police Department to give a statement, and an investigation is underway into the circumstances of the tragic event.

In an official statement, the Ministry of Education said:

“The little girl was not participating in gym class at the time of her collapse. She was walking in the basketball court area. Her school health record stated she could exercise without restrictions, meaning there was no known medical issue. The PE teacher immediately called the school nurse, who rushed to provide first aid and perform CPR, while at the same time an ambulance was called.”
