Two stabbings over sports fan differences within a few hours in Chalkida: One 23 year old dead – 3 people arrested

They left the 23 year old who was stabbed on Lilandion Street on Monday night bleeding outside the hospital — The second incident took place at Plateia Eleftherias with one injured

Newsroom November 4 08:59

Police in Chalkida are on high alert after the two stabbing incidents that occurred within a few hours on Monday night, leaving one 23 year old man dead and another young man injured.

The first incident happened on Lilandion Street when — according to reports — groups of young men got into a dispute with each other resulting in the 23 year old being stabbed.

Unknown individuals transported the 23 year old with a private vehicle to the Chalkida hospital and abandoned him at the entrance. Despite the efforts of doctors, the young man succumbed to his injuries and died.

The latest information points to an incident connected to supporter / fan affiliations, with the police proceeding to three arrests, while two more individuals who were injured in the clash are also expected to be arrested.

According to police spokesperson Konstantia Dimoglidou, the picture formed by investigators is that 8 people were involved in total, in two groups of four. “We are therefore looking for two more individuals. No one appears to have troubled authorities in the past,” Ms Dimoglidou added on SKAI.

A woman who was at the Chalkida hospital at the time the 23 year old was brought in bleeding describes to evima.gr: “I am in shock! some people brought a stabbed kid to the Chalkida hospital. They dropped him and left right in front of our eyes. They stabbed a 23 year old boy… for nothing. For nonsense. For supporter rivalry? He died in the hands of citizens and doctors. In our hands… With what soul? With what heart? In what world are we living, my God? How did we reach the point of giving away life so easily, erasing dreams, killing tomorrow? A mother and father today cry. And with her, an entire society cries that loses its children, one by one… Let us wake up. Let us find our humanity again — before this also disappears. Our children and our eyes wide open.”

A second incident followed a little later near Plateia Eleftherias with a 20 year old man being found bleeding and transported to Chalkida Hospital. According to eviaonline.gr the condition of the 20 year old — who is hospitalized under police guard — does not raise concern for his life as he has fractures and a stab wound under the eye.

Police — who have carried out many detentions — are examining the connection between the two incidents, with Chalkida Security Department undertaking full investigation of both cases.
