Weather: Northerly winds and no rain until the end of the week

Extreme rainfall hit the eastern Aegean over the past 24 hours, according to meteorologists – The National Meteorological Service (EMY) forecast for the weekend

Newsroom November 12 07:57

After the severe weather front that struck the eastern Aegean, conditions across the country are gradually improving. According to forecast data, the coming days up to and including Sunday, November 16, will bring sunshine, light northerly winds, and normal temperatures for the season. Meteorologists agree that the fair weather will persist until the end of the week, offering a brief respite before the next change expected around the middle of next week.

“We’ll get a big ‘breather’ with no rain until the end of the week, light northerly winds, and seasonal temperatures,” noted meteorologist Theodoros Kolydas in a post.

Meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafyllias, meanwhile, focused on the rain that fell over the past 24 hours, stressing that the recorded precipitation levels in the eastern Aegean were extreme. As he pointed out, “especially in the coastal and shoreline areas east of Lesvos, satellite imagery shows that over 400 tons of water per stremma (10 acres) fell.”

“In other words, the amount of water that normally falls over four Novembers on the island came down in just a few hours. In Kalloni and Skala, rainfall reached 200 tons per stremma within a few hours,” Tsatrafyllias added, highlighting the intensity of the phenomena that preceded the weather’s weakening.
