Clashes at the Polytechnic with violence and damages – There were injured who were taken to hospital

Violent clashes broke out on Saturday morning at the Athens Polytechnic, which opened its gates early in the day for the three-day events marking the 52nd anniversary of the uprising

Newsroom November 15 04:17

According to reports, incidents erupted both in the courtyard and inside the building shortly after 9 a.m., at the moment the gates opened to the public. According to an announcement by MeRA25, the clashes took place between far-left groups and anarchists, resulting in several people being injured and taken to the hospital, as well as significant property damage.

The MeRA25 Announcement

“Today’s attack at the Polytechnic by members of ARAS against anarchist groups, which resulted in people being transported to the hospital, tarnishes the message of the 52-year anniversary of the popular uprising itself.

For the Left, the values of Freedom, Solidarity, Democracy and Tolerance are non-negotiable. Acts of violence and extreme authoritarianism that endanger human safety in the name of the Left cannot be accepted.

MeRA25, committed to the principles of Freedom and Democracy, condemns these practices and declares that it has no connection whatsoever to the morning’s events.”

Opening Hours of the Polytechnic

According to the decision issued, today and tomorrow, Sunday (16/11/2025), the Patision campus will open at 09:00 and close at 20:00. On Monday, November 17, 2025, the gates will again open at 09:00 but will close at 13:00 to allow the traditional march to the U.S. Embassy to take place.

Since Saturday morning, citizens have been laying flowers, while representatives of associations and unions are placing wreaths. Throughout the three-day commemoration, events, documentary screenings, and presentations by student unions featuring people who played a key role in the historic events have been scheduled.

Emergency Traffic Measures

Meanwhile, emergency traffic restrictions are in effect in central Athens from 6 a.m. and will remain in place until 6 a.m. on Tuesday.
