Charitsis: No to the war budget, we demand a reduction of defense spending to 2%

The president of New Left accused the government of “plundering the institutions”

The president of New Left, speaking in the Plenary of Parliament on the state budget, criticized the government’s policies and spoke of “plundering the institutions.”

“The Mitsotakis government is solely responsible for the unprecedented breach of citizens’ trust in institutions such as the Judiciary and Parliament,” he argued, referring to the Tempi case, OPEKEPE, and the surveillance scandals.

Regarding the economy, Mr. Charitsis noted: “Greece remains the EU country with the second-lowest share of GDP directed to investments. And according to all economic reports, even these investments are mainly due to resources from the Recovery and Resilience Fund (TAF), which will run out in one year. All reports sound the alarm for the period afterwards – only the Greek government seems unconcerned. In its own Multiannual Fiscal Strategy, the government speaks of a collapse of investments after 2026: from 10.2% in 2026, to 0.9% in 2028, and 0.8% in 2029.”
