The Trump administration is “actively” discussing the potential purchase of Greenland, said White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt, adding that the U.S. president prioritizes a diplomatic solution but “keeps his options open.”

Acquiring Greenland, Levitt told reporters, is “something that is actively being discussed by the president and his national security team,” describing Greenland as “strategically favorable for U.S. national security.”

Trump, she added, “believes it is in the United States’ interest to prevent Russian and Chinese aggression in the Arctic region, and that is why his team is currently discussing what a potential purchase would look like.”

Asked why Trump has not ruled out military action to take over Greenland—a possibility that has sparked significant reaction from Denmark and other NATO allies—she said: “All options are always on the table for President Trump as he considers what is in the United States’ interest, but I will just say that the president’s first choice has always been diplomacy.”
