Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the renovated Emergency Department (ED) of the General Hospital of Athens “Korgialeneio–Benakeio Hellenic Red Cross” on Friday afternoon.
Accompanied by Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis and Deputy Minister Marios Themistokleous, the Prime Minister was guided through the new ED facilities by the hospital’s governor, Anastasios Karandreas. The renovation is being carried out with full funding from the Recovery and Resilience Fund.

The first phase of the project, which included the renovation of an 800 sq. m. area and the installation of modern medical and technological equipment, has been completed, and the Emergency Department is already fully operational. Specifically, the renovation works cover triage and resuscitation areas, examination rooms, specialty clinics such as ophthalmology and ENT, as well as areas for EKAV (ambulance service), orderlies, reception administration and nursing staff.
The second phase of the project, covering an additional 700 sq. m., is currently underway and is scheduled for completion in spring 2026.

During his visit, Kyriakos Mitsotakis had the opportunity to speak with medical, nursing and administrative staff, as well as with patients, about the reforms and projects being implemented in the National Health System aimed at upgrading healthcare services, improving patient experience, and enhancing working conditions for staff.
